Your wedding day can and should be one of the most amazing days you will experience and remember. Help to make those memories even more spectacular by following a few key ideas that will help you to have an awesome wedding day. From the small, meaningful details to the treasured big picture, your wedding day is sure to be filled with moments that you carry in your heart forever.
Planning Makes Perfect
Do whatever you can weeks or months in advance, including writing thank you notes to all of your wedding party and anyone else helping to ensure that the day goes off without a hitch. If you have a wedding planner, make sure you communicate your needs and wants and work together to make sure those little details are completed. We always work with the bride or wedding planner to plan the photography around the day's events. We recommend a minimum (3 hours is better) of 2 hours for family and garden photos taking into account 3-4 different shoot locations.
Take the time to make sure you are prepared for the first 24-48 hours after the wedding as well, letting you fully enjoy the entire event. Have extra personal supplies such as make-up on hand so that you have one set for the wedding and another available at your location after the wedding.
The day before your wedding take several hours to just relax and refocus your energies. Centering yourself and remembering why you began this journey will help to calm your nerves and let you enjoy each moment more fully.
Don’t Sweat It
Prepare for the unexpected and don’t sweat the small stuff. Your guests won’t know that the florist used pink teacup roses instead of rose tinted daisies. Make sure that you have a helping hand, whether it is a professional wedding planner, personal attendant, or capable and reliable friend. When there are bumps in the road, hand over the responsibility to your support system and go on enjoying your day.
Ask close family or friends from both the bride’s and the groom’s sides to be representative hosts for your wedding. It is their job to welcome guests, answer questions guests might have, lead people from the receiving line to the cocktail service, or in general be extra sets of trusted eyes and ears who will help you make sure your wedding goes off without a hitch. Having these close family members serve as hosts will make some guests feel more welcome and relaxed than if they were solely relying on professional wedding event staff members.
Make the Most of It
Small details will help to ensure that you and your guests have an awesome wedding day. If you are writing your own vows you can include a story of how you first met or when you first knew this was the one for you. If there is one thing you have always dreamed about for your wedding, try to find a way to incorporate it in your plans. Perhaps you always wanted a train of carriages and footmen, but you will be just as pleased with a carriage ride through the park on the way to the reception. It is your day to make the most of your dreams.
For out of town guests who are staying at hotels, have goodie bags ready for them at the front desk when they arrive. Inside they can find maps of the area, brochures from are hotspots and highlights, snacks from local companies for late-night treats, and a thank you note for sharing in your day.
Picture This!
Make sure that you have your wedding photographer capture plenty of casual, candid pictures that will be true to the essence of the day. Consider having videography at the reception to record words of wisdom from loved ones, the energy of the event, and special moments like a first dance. You can also leave cards at the place settings encouraging guests to send digital copies of photographs they might have captured to either an email address, personal blog, or other online sharing site where invited guests can post and view pictures from the wedding day.
Be Traditional
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Incorporating these traditions can add more personal meaning to your wedding day. Ask bridesmaids for help gathering these items and make sure they are ready to go the day before. Grooms can even enlist the help of fiancés’ friends to make sure these details are taken care of as gifts to their brides. You could also find a unique family tradition you would like to continue or start one of your own. Perhaps you can be the first one in your family to take your mother out to breakfast on the day to have one last special moment together before the wedding.
Weddings represent the first chapters in the stories of joined lives and love. You can write your own wonderful chapter by not only paying attention to the small details, but by finding ways to make your own dreams come true. Envision your perfect wedding day and then assemble a group of people, from professional planners and photographers to closest friends and family, to help you on your journey. Enjoy the process and let your love and commitment shine through everything you do.
